B&W operates in the highly specialised field of E&I and is committed to developing a skills pool for the group and to enriching the wider industry. The group has invested substantially in this area. A training facility in Trichardt is now fully operational and is being used for induction, skills training and grading of staff. The training programmes used are in line with accredited S.A.Q.A. unit standards and ensure trainees receive an accredited qualification at the end of any training exercise.
To determine the appropriate skills development required B&W provides ongoing on-the-job assessments. In addition long-term incentives ensure retention of core staff. Total training spend in 2008/9 amounted to R3.4 million.
